The study proposes a 6-month project (starting July 1, 2021 and ending Dec 31, 2021) to prepare a case study for Philips China to address underlying challenges in operationalizing sustainability strategies and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments within the corporation's routine decision-making processes. The study explores best practices for enhancing the business model of Philips China to to be aligned with China's sustainability policies and the firm's sustainability targets.

The research developed a benchmarking methodology for a scoring model for users of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data available on bloomberg terminals, collaborating with ESG Analytics. The model allows for analysis, comparison, and scoring of publicly listed companies on relative ESG performance, enabling ESG Analytics to develop the software application that provides users with critical ESG information relevant to investment decision-making.

The study explores how a multilateral development bank can leverage its unique social, human, and reputational capital to mobilize available resources for broad-based development impact. The study will examine a range of transactions and instruments utilized by IDB, including co-financing, pooled due diligence capacities, bespoke transaction structuring, and leveraging of partner resources (stock exchange capacity, socially responsible investment funds, non-financial disclosure initiatives). Furthermore, the study will catalogue a range of blended finance mechanisms and the use of treasury-like products such as insurance and guarantees, as well as green finance. The final product will serve as a teaching case or a thought leadership brief for sustainable finance practitioners looking to adapt similar approaches.
