Sustainability Metrics

An ongoing study and evaluation of the current measures of sustainability performance and impact measurement at the organizational, local, national and global level.

For the past 7 years, the Program has been engaged in an ongoing study and evaluation of the current measures of sustainability performance and impact measurement at the organizational, local, national and global level, with the ultimate goal of developing generally accepted measures of the physical dimensions of sustainability.

  • Our preliminary research yielded a database of nearly 600 distinct environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics.
  • Results of this initial study are described in three white papers.
  • “A Framework and Methodology for Assessing Sustainability Metrics” was prepared for presentation to the Fall Research Conference of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM), Albuquerque, New Mexico, November 6-8, 2014.
  • “Case Studies: Sustainability Metrics to Evaluate Program Success” was prepared for the Advanced Leadership Enhancement Program (ALEP), Hong Kong, December 14-18, 2014.
